Latvian Association in Bavaria
“We bring together Latvians in Bavaria through celebrations, concerts and interest groups.”
WHO WE ARE
The Latvian Association in Bavaria was founded in Munich in 2023 and brings together Latvians and friends of Latvia living in Bavaria. Our aim is to preserve the Latvian language, traditions and cultural heritage and pass them on to future generations. We organise celebrations and social events, support our choir and create a place to meet and share experiences. At the same time, we foster friendly ties with the wider Bavarian community.
Latvia is wherever we are
We bring compatriots together in Bavaria and the neighbouring regions and keep close ties with Latvians across Germany. We feel Latvia in conversations, songs and time spent together – and our children form their own memories of it.
Our pride: the choir “Rudzi”
The mixed choir “Rudzi” is one of the association’s most important projects. What began as a wish to sing together has grown into an ensemble that works with other choirs and musicians and carries Latvian song to audiences in Germany and beyond.
Be part of our community
Each of us has our own life story, but together we achieve more. The association is shaped by everyone who attends events, helps to organise them or suggests something new. Latvians, their families and all friends of Latvian culture are warmly invited to join us!
Celebrations and gatherings
In Munich we celebrate Latvia’s national holiday and the Day of the Restoration of Independence, and on Lāčplēsis Day we honour Latvia’s freedom fighters with a torchlight procession. Our events bring together people who have lived outside Latvia for many years and those who have only recently arrived in Germany – celebrating together helps us get to know one another, make friends and feel at home.
Connection with Latvia
We strengthen our bond with Latvia by taking part in its public life: we help organise the polling station and the mobile passport station in Munich.
Support us
Every donation is valuable, whatever its size, and you can give at any time. Your contribution helps us organise celebrations, support the choir and sports activities, and preserve Latvian culture in Bavaria. Thank you for standing with us!

Cast your vote at the Munich polling station!
Polling station in Munich
The association organises a Latvian polling station in Munich. So far it has been open for the 2024 European Parliament elections and the 15th Saeima elections on 3 October 2026.
See you at the elections!
The polling station is not only a place to exercise your right to vote, but also a lovely opportunity to meet other Latvians in Bavaria and make new friends. See you at the next elections!
Mobile passport station
The association also helps organise the mobile passport station in Munich, so Latvians in Bavaria can renew their passport or ID card without travelling to the embassy in Berlin – and meet each other along the way. Watch this space for updates!
Active leisure and sport
The sports and outdoor activities organised by the association cover a wide range of interests.
Hikes for families
Hikes at the beginning of May, in September and the hike dedicated to Lāčplēsis Day have become a tradition. Everyone is welcome, especially families with children: the routes are easy – more like walks – and manageable for anyone.
Mountains and challenges
Those looking for a real challenge set off on hikes of varying difficulty in the Alps. Some of us also enjoy more demanding mountain tours that require physical fitness and specific skills. Your experience doesn’t matter – if you’re interested, join us!
Fan club
International competitions featuring Latvian athletes often take place in Bavaria or neighbouring countries. Our fan club organises joint visits to these events – with ice hockey matches, of course, taking pride of place.
